Background

Steve received a B.S. in Molecular & Cellular Biology, from the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Tufts University.  Steve’s industry career began in 1995 as a PostDoc and Bioinformatics Scientist at Genetics Institute. He assumed leadership of Wyeth Bioinformatics in 2000 and in 2005 led Wyeth’s NextGen Discovery IT project, which transformed the core platform used by Discovery Research scientists. In 2009, Steve joined Pfizer Research Business Technology (BT) to lead the MA and East Coast teams. He assumed leadership of Research and Early Clinical Development BT in 2015 and the Digital R&D Client Partner team in 2019. Over these 26 years, he and his team made many impactful contributions including co-developing Certara’s D360 framework to simplify scientists’ workflows, developing Pfizer’s global Biomolecule Informatics Toolkit to drive biotherapeutic and vaccine development, foundational collaboration capabilities enabling Pfizer’s Centers of Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) and Kendall Square sites, transforming lab data workflows to reduce cost and give scientists more time for science, implementing foundational cloud services from Amazon and Google, and enterprise support for the Apple Macintosh. Steve’s pharma journey started long before 1995, though, having grown up in a Pfizer family in East Lyme, CT. Tuft’s Magazine recently wrote a wonderful article about his journey, which can be found here.
