During his master’s program at UGA, Viren used Prolog to re-code a natural language chat bot known as Eliza originally developed by Jeff Weizenbaum. Another version of Eliza is also included in the Emacs text editor. His Ph.D. research developed an egg grading system using neural networks and expert systems, along with image processing. The system achieved a 98% accuracy compared to human graders at 95% accuracy. His current areas of interest are in high-performance computing systems and software to store, process, and analyze Big Data generated in the biological sciences.
