Background

Shane started his career in scientific computing at Advanced Clustering Technologies (ACT). At ACT, Shane designed, installed, configured, and supported HPC systems for institutions such as NASA, Brookhaven National Labs, Argon National Labs, Cern, and others.

At Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH) in Kansas City, Missouri, Shane helped establish the Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine (CPGM) and led a team of expert engineers to support and continually improve the HPC infrastructure he designed and implemented. Shane’s instrumental work at CPGM helped achieve the world’s first 48-hour whole-genome sequencing  (WGS) pipeline, which later became the world’s first 26-hour WGS pipeline. This ultra-rapid clinical pipeline still impacts the emergency management of genetic diseases in critically ill children.

At Data Direct Networks, Shane designed extreme-performance petascale storage systems for organizations using ground-breaking techniques in cryo-electron microscopy and genomics, oil and gas exploration, and AI.

Shane brings to BioTeam a great deal of experience working with and supporting scientific computing and the scientists behind complex computational workloads like terrestrial and solar weather modeling, computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, genomics, and cryo-electron microscopy. At BioTeam, he continues his pursuit of making the world a better place for future generations by utilizing his expertise in HPC technology to accelerate science.
