Intro:

Patricia’s research and career activities are focused on assisting the biomedical community with access to quality data and computational tools that improve and advance knowledge discovery in all aspects of medicine and health care. She worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami, and later worked as a Principal Investigator at Infotech Soft on various NIH/CDC contracts and grants. At her startup Lifetime Omics, she ran an NIH-funded clinical study that analyzed the COVID-19 saliva microbiome with a focus on sepsis prognosis.  In 2021, she joined BioTeam to accelerate biomedical research via efficient design and optimization of data integration, bioinformatics analysis workflows, cloud-computing and machine learning approaches.

Background

Patricia has a PhD in Bioinformatics from Florida International University and a Master’s in Computer Science from the Technical University of Munich. She grew up in Peru attending a German school in Lima, and subsequently went to college in Munich, Germany, where she lived for 10 years. She came to the USA with a German telecommunication startup that opened a branch in Miami. She was the VP of Research & Development and managed the Software Development, IT and Customer Services groups, helping the company grow from 3 people to 40 in 4 years. When the news came out that the human genome had been “decoded” in 2000, she became fascinated with the possibility of using her computer science skills to study the internal biological universe and decided to pursue a PhD in Bioinformatics.  After obtaining her degree, she worked as an Assistant Professor at the Biology Department of the University of Miami. Later at Infotech Soft, she worked as a Principal Investigator on various NIH/CDC contracts and grants that focused on infectious diseases, medical image analysis, and omics. She founded her own startup, Lifetime Omics, to pursue microbiome profiling diagnostics and ran an NIH-funded clinical study that analyzed the COVID-19 saliva microbiome with a focus on sepsis prognosis.  In 2020, she joined BioTeam to accelerate biomedical research via data integration, statistical and machine learning approaches that are finetuned to discover or extract medical/biological knowledge from clinical/health records, imaging data, and from high throughput biomedical data, such as NGS, and omics data.

Personal Interests:

Patricia is part of a group of outdoor enthusiasts and enjoys bike riding and stand-up paddle boarding in the Florida Everglades, Florida Keys, and along the beach. She is an avid reader and to save time she now listens to audiobooks during aerobic/cardio exercises at the gym or on solo bike rides.
