Case Study: Genotyping

The Center for Inherited Disease Research at Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, Maryland

Background

The Center for Inherited Disease Research at Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, Maryland, a high throughput genotyping lab for NIH-funded principal investigators, needed to a platform to support the computationally intensive genotyping process. The CIDR turned to Apple and BioTeam.

Solution Design

The Apple Workgroup Cluster let CIDR easily deploy a complete UNIX-based cluster in a fraction of the time it would have taken to manually assemble a Linux cluster. With an Apple Workgroup Cluster, CIDR has enough horsepower for the time being-but with plenty of room to grow. The scalability of the cluster leaves CIDR in a position to add more nodes as they need them.
